Today is my 30th birthday! And I’m celebrating the life that I am blessed to lead. I am so thankful that I get to help save elephants and build community, making a tangible difference in the lives of orphaned elephants in Zambia and the people who care for them.

What do I want to see more of in this new decade I’m entering? I want to see elephants living in the wild and free from poaching predators. I want to see China and the United States end the demand for ivory. I want to see African communities and elephants live, and thrive, together in harmony.

And so I’m celebrating! Celebrating by planning a trip to visit the GRI Elephant Orphanage in Zambia this May 2016. I’m excited to meet the orphaned elephants, the rangers, and the families who live near the parks with the wild elephants to learn more about how Elephantopia can partner with them to help save elephants and build community. Celebrating by continuing to petition Florida to ban ivory. Celebrating by participating in the upcoming Global March for Elephants and Rhinos here in Gainesville, FL.

I love elephants. I can’t imagine a world without them. Not only are they a keystone species (meaning that entire ecosystems rely on them for continued survival), but they are also the world’s largest land mammals, and they have a lot to teach us! And so I celebrate them! And the people who care for them. And the communities who live around them. I celebrate the goal to save elephants and build community.
